Last Few Days Before Break!

Donations:
- We are still collecting food items that are packaged in bags or boxes for donation. The generosity of the students is so heartwarming!

Caroling:
- We are singing Christmas Carols in the gym at 9:00 on Thursday. Parents are welcome to join us!

Gift Exchange:
- On Thursday we are going to have a little gift exchange. We don't know who will get our gift so it will be a surprise! The only rule is that students have to make the gift, and wrap it. They should find supplies around the house. No purchasing allowed!

Report Cards:
- Report cards are coming home tomorrow. Students know it is an important document that they should share with parents once they get home. Please keep the contents and send the signed envelope back to school so it can be used again in June.

Winter Celebration: Thursday 6:00-9:00 pm

 Tonight is our Winter Celebration!
We are so excited about the new initiatives we are trying this year.
Please remember to bring a cash donation to support the purchase of the perishable items for the Christmas hampers.
While you are at the event, I hope you enjoy all the activities: placemats & cards for donation, hot chocolate/cider to warm you up, New Years' messages to our Armed Forces overseas, making bird feeders for our little feathered friends, and carol singing.
Before you leave, visit the trees to take a tag or 2 to purchase a gift for the members of the families we are supporting through our hamper program!

Hope to see you all there!

Building our Regions

We each got a group that has a region. The regions are Boreal Forest, Rocky Mountains, Foothills, Parkland, Grasslands, and Canadian Shield.

Today we continued building on our map piece to make a topographical map of Alberta. It was really tricky to make it because some cities are in more than one region and the trees are hard to make.

Donation Items for the Mustard Seed

Today we collected a lot of toiletries for our team. We brought in 40 items, and Mrs. Kousouris' class brought in 72 items!!

We can still bring items in for Monday & Tuesday. Our class goal is to get to 60!

We are also collecting canned food for next week.

In the Spirit of Generosity...

Today students brought home a flyer advertising how and what we are doing to support those in need.

We are having a friendly competition to bring in items. This week we are collecting travel-sized toiletry items and socks for adults. I am confident our team will be superstars of generosity!
Here are some of the items you can donate.

Stock Market Investigation

Today the grade 3/4's began an investigation into "playing the stock market". They will make decisions about buying and selling 4 different stocks, while having a practical application for practicing their adding, subtracting and multiplication skills. Students are pretty excited!

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Its that time of year already when we get together to discuss the learning successes and challenges of students. A form is coming home today with the oldest student with information for booking a time with me!

I appreciate students and parents to be in attendance so the sharing and questions are addressed and celebrated.

See you next week!

Open Minds Volunteering

Hello, everyone! So far we do not have any volunteers to help us at The Hub for our Open Minds week. I'm hoping it is because it is still a little ways off. However, a message is going out to the whole school community to see if any other parents are able to help us out. So, if you are thinking of volunteering, please go to the link to sign up through Sign Up Genius sooner rather than later.

Morning Snacks

We have had many conversations about snacks vs treats. Snacks are foods that fuel the brain and support our bodies in our learning and focus. The ingredients have limited sugar and sodium, and have an abundance of vitamins and minerals. Treats are foods that have little nutritional value and should be enjoyed on special occasions. As well, treats tend to create more garbage, which is another conversation we have been having. After visiting the landfill and learning just how much waste we create with single use plastics, and the amount of wrapping different products have, we are trying hard to reduce our ecological footprint.

What is your impact on our Earth?
Students did a survey to measure their footprint. As a family, try these quizzes and talk about how you might make changes to waste production.

Halloween

Just a reminder that at our school, and many others, believe that structuring our learning around curriculum is our main focus. Halloween is one of those really fun evening events that is best celebrated with family and friends after school hours. Not all families partake in this festival, but if you do, please be safe and enjoy the fun Thursday night. (please keep costumes at home)

Community Walk - Friday, October 18

Tomorrow we are going to Confederation Park to do some Nature Journaling!
Make sure you dress for the weather! It is supposed to be about 11 degrees, but not until the afternoon, so mitts and toques will help you stay comfortable.
